The Razzies: Hollywood’s night of shame…

Each year, the Golden Raspberry Awards recognise the very worst achievements in film. Taking place one day before the Academy Awards, show-business’ biggest night, the ‘Razzies’ often controversially award big-name actors with a golf-ball-sized raspberry statue. The ceremony is an antidote to the glitz and glamour of the Oscars, a way of recognising brave failures and the general stupidity within the Hollywood movie system. And this year’s winners didn’t disappoint…

Since 1981, the Razzies have handed awards out to Hollywood’s best and brightest. Founded by the publicist John J. B. Wilson, the nominations are often cause for recrimination and discussion. This year, the list of winners included multiplex director Michael Bay, ex-child star Kirk Cameron and Hollywood darling Cameron Diaz. Categories are often hilarious, with awards given for the “Worst Remake, Sequel, or Rip-off” and “Worst Screen Combo”.

The big winner in this year’s competition ended up being “Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas”, an appallingly titled family comedy which took the gongs for “Worst Picture”, “Worst Actor” and “Worst Screenplay”. The rare honour of receiving three awards has only been achieved a few times; in this instance, it will likely guarantee the film’s cult status as one of the year’s must-see flops.  Cameron Diaz, Megan Fox and Kelsey Grammer were also awarded for their appalling efforts, as was big-time Transformers “director” Michael Bay.

Below we have reproduced a list of the nominees and winners, a hilarious list worth perusing at your leisure. Enjoy….
