A string of tragic news events have rocked Bondi and the surrounding Eastern suburbs over the last week, with a death on Tamarama beach as well as another near death experience, a missing person and one-punch attack court case.

A 41 year old man died at Tamarama beach on Wednesday afternoon after being swept up in a strong swell and stranded on the rocks. The well known book puplisher Matthew Richell had started at bronte beach but was pulled north. A jetski was on its way from bondi to help the father of two but it failed to reach him before he was knocked onto the rocks. Mr richell moved to Australia from the UK with his wife and two children aged six and three. Tamarama beach is not patrolled by lifeguards during winter.

In another shocking experience, a bondi baker luckily avoided being crushed last Thursday when a truck ploughed into her car. The 31 year old baker, tess ulvesund was loading cakes into her car in bondi when the truck lost control down the driveway, unable to break. CCTV footage shows ms Ulvesund jumping out of the way less than a second before the truck slammed into her car.

Police are appealing for information about a missing man who hasn’t been seen since a home invasion in Bondi Beach last Sunday. at 1am on Sunday two armed men forced their way into a unit on roscoe street and confronted the two men staying at the apartment. The Caucasian is in his late 40s about 175cm tall with short dark hair and a greying beard and goes by the names eddy or Michael, with his surname believed to be Scott. CCTV footage of Daniel Christie’s alleged kings cross one-punch attack on new year’s eve 2013 was shown in NSW supreme court on Tuesday. The footage shows Shaun McNeil walking through the cross with his girlfriend and allegedly punching a teenager, causing him to fall to the ground. Moments later he allegedly punches Mr Christie, who fell back on to the road eventually leading to his death. Mcneil has pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter.
